Our knowledge and our values

All our jewellery is Made In Europe, handmade in Porto, Portugal, in a family-run workshop, an art that is passed on from father to son.

Handmade in respectful and caring conditions, our jewellery comes to life thanks to the talent and trust placed in this family.

We design all our models in Paris, models that belong exclusively to us, then we handmade them in a workshop in Portugal.
We scrupulously follow the manufacturing process of our jewellery. Sophie, the designer, visits the workshop regularly.
Our production is handmade and 100% European.

We work exclusively with 18-carat gold (or "750 thousandths gold"), the noblest, most resistant and most brilliant gold available.
Our preference is for yellow gold, which brings out the light of precious stones, emeralds, sapphires and rubies.
However, all our jewellery can be handmade to order in white or pink gold.

The gold is recycled from existing pieces that are made available for the manufacture of our jewellery.
Recycled gold has the same value as mined gold. Recycled does not mean devalued.
Once recycled, gold loses neither quality nor value. Gold is probably the most recycled material since its discovery!

Gold is so economically valuable that it has always been recycled and will continue to be recycled. We have turned to recycled gold to minimise our environmental impact at our level. The stock of gold already mined is considerable, so there is no need to mine gold to make our jewellery.

The carat is the index that measures the purity of a precious metal. The higher the carat, the purer the gold.
9k = 37.5% gold + zinc, silver and copper blend
14k = 58.5% gold + zinc, silver and copper blend
18k = 75% gold + zinc, silver and copper blend

All our jewellery is handmade to order in yellow, white or pink gold. The production time is approximately 5 weeks.
For all customisation requests, please write to us at eshop@sophiedagon.com.

Our stones

We work mainly with precious stones and use very high quality stones, carefully sourced from all over the world. On some models we also use fine stones (turquoise, lapis lazuli,...) which bring a nice contrast with the brilliance of the precious stones.

The precious stones we use to create our jewellery are imported from all over the world. This will depend on the type of stone, for sapphires and rubies (Sri Lanka, Mozambique, Madagascar, Thailand), emeralds (Zambia, Brazil), tsavorites (Kenya), diamonds (Australia, Congo, Canada, South Africa, India).
Our white diamonds are certified conflict-free under the Kimberley Process (an international agreement that ensures stones have not been used to finance military organizations). As for their quality, we use Extra White diamonds, color G, and clarity VS1. Our center stone diamonds come with a GIA certificate.

Because there are often many intermediaries between the extraction of a rough diamond and the setting of your stone, it is essential for us to work with trusted stone suppliers who share our values, are mindful of current ethical concerns, and have clear visibility over the origin of the stones and the conditions in which they were mined.
We are fortunate to have an in-house gemologist who ensures our stones are natural and untreated, of high quality, and in the right color ranges to match our models - although small variations may occur. Most importantly, our stones are ethically sourced: we prioritize using "dead stock" (stones extracted a long time ago) and work with suppliers who can vouch for fair working conditions.

Precious stones are distinguished by their quality, rarity and the beauty of their colours. There are only four precious stones: diamond, sapphire, ruby and emerald. All other stones are therefore called ''fine stones''.

Precious stones contain irregularities called inclusions. These are small particles that are introduced during the crystallization of the stones in the earth's crust. They testify to their veracity, and they also allow, for certain stones, to determine their place of creation. A stone without inclusions is either synthetic or extremely pure and rare, which will be reflected in its price.

Emerald is a crystal that forms under extreme and almost miraculous geological conditions. This is the reason for its many inclusions, which are called "emerald gardens". It is because the emerald contains many inclusions that it is more likely to break during a shock, which is also what gives it its charm and mystery.

Yes, and this is what makes our jewellery unique. The precious stones we use are natural stones, their colour may vary slightly depending on their origin. It is the chemical composition of the stones that influences their colour.

Sapphire is often known for its blue stones ranging from very light blue to the deepest blue, however this stone also offers an infinite palette of colours: a rainbow of pink, yellow, purple or cognac.

“Salt and Pepper” diamonds naturally capture small inclusions during their formation. Each diamond is unique and has its own galaxy of inclusions. Its pearl grey shade gives it the vintage look we love. It is a more sustainable option than white diamonds as it requires fewer resources to mine.

Diamond quality is defined by the 4Cs: Carat (weight), Colour, Clarity and Cut. This is an international grading rule for all white diamonds.

Carat: One carat is equivalent to 0.2 grams.
Color: the international scale of grades includes 23 grades from D (perfectly white diamonds) to Z.
Clarity: indicates the degree of imperfection in the diamond. These imperfections are inclusions in the core of the diamond's structure that appear during its formation.
Cut: The diamond can take on many different geometries to enhance its brilliance. It is the quality of the cut of the diamond (whatever its shape) which will maximize its brilliance. It is the only one of the 4 criteria of evaluation of the diamond which depends on the work of the man.

Our different types of gem-setting

The bezel setting, also called the folded setting, is the oldest and most resistant setting. A strip of gold completely surrounds the stone and is then folded over it to slightly cover it. This technique intensifies the colour of the stones.

The claw setting consists of holding the stone with small gold spikes. It is the one that offers the most light and gives the most sparkle to the stone. It is therefore the most common in jewellery. You will find it mainly in our Gaia and Camélia collections.

The grain setting, which we like and work on a lot at Sophie d'Agon, consists of holding the stones in place with small gold balls. This setting offers absolute comfort and blends perfectly with the stones. It allows us to create soft, delicate and enveloping models.

Hallmarks

According to the current legislation, all our jewels are hallmarked with the 750 hallmark (18 carat gold) and the master hallmark. For jewellery weighing more than 3g of gold, you will also find the eagle head hallmark.

The hallmark on creations is a way of guaranteeing the precious metal content and there are several of them which concern Gold, Silver and Platinum. The hallmark defines the carat, i.e. the percentage of gold contained in the jewel, as well as identifying the manufacturer of the jewel.

We find 3 types of hallmarks, the hallmark of titling 750 which is a hallmark that guarantees that the jewel is made of at least gold 750 (18 carats), the hallmark of master which constitutes the signature of the craftsman at the origin of the jewel. It attests to the origin of the jewel and the eagle head hallmark which is a state hallmark for all jewels with more than 3g of gold.

Sophie d’Agon Jewellery customisation

All of our jewelry is customizable! On all our collections you can choose the color of the gold (yellow, white or pink) and choose the color or the mixture of colors of the stones. Just write to us at eshop@sophiedagon.com.

Just write to us at the following address eshop@sophiedagon.com. We will then come back to you with a drawing to validate the final model.

A surcharge of 50 euros will be asked for all customisation requests. This allows us to provide you with 5 visuals and our guidance, to help you choose the best possible combination. Also, if you wish to add white diamonds, there will be an additional cost. We will give you an estimate for this.

We do not offer this kind of personalization. The customization is only made on the models of our collections.
Indeed, we only work with our own stock of precious stones, as they must be perfectly calibrated for our creations. Moreover, gold being a strictly controlled and sourced material, we cannot use gold provided by individuals.
However, we can personalize our existing models but do not have the possibility to create fully custom-made designs.

It is totally possible to be guided in your choice of personalisation of your Sophie d'Agon jewel. If you are in Paris, you can go directly to the boutique. Otherwise, you can also contact us by email.
You will benefit from the support of the whole team and the designer throughout your selection process.

Ring size guide

No worries! An online sizer is available on each of our product pages, or you can go to a shop or jeweller near you. The ring sizes are standardized, a size 52 corresponds to the circumference of the ring of 52 millimeters.

The most important step is to print it out to scale 1. You need to check that the black line measures exactly 5 cm once printed, to ensure the scale is correct. Then simply take a ring (ideally a single ring) and place it on the different circles until you find the right diameter (inner diameter) the black circle should be visible. The number under the right circle is the size of the ring.

In case the finger knuckle is wider than the phalanx, or in case the jewel can no longer be adjusted to size, we propose to put two small gold balls inside the ring in order to reduce the diameter of the ring and thus allow the ring to stop turning. They are priced at 50 euros.
For more details, we advise you to contact us or to come directly to our boutique.

It is totally possible to order these sizes!
This is a special order and it takes about 5 weeks to make. The price remains of course the same.
We will need some information from you in order to issue the invoice and once the amount is paid, we will proceed to the production of your order.
You can contact us at eshop@sophiedagon.com if you want to order these sizes.

The first resizing of your jewelry is free. The second resizing will be charged at 40 euros.
Depending on the model of the ring, we can make a sizing up to -4/+4 sizes.
If we are unable to handmake your ring, we will exchange it. However, the ring must not have been worn and must be returned in its original jewelry box.

Exchange and refund

For any exchange request, you have 30 days from the date of receipt to return your jewel.
To do so, we will issue a return form that you will have to print and stick on your package. You can then drop it off at a post office. Furthermore, the jewel must not have been worn and must be returned in its original jewelry box. For more information: eshop@sophiedagon.com.

Jewellery care

Our jewellery is handmade from quality materials that are water resistant. However, we advise you to remove the jewellery when swimming in the sea or in a swimming pool, as well as for any activity requiring chemical products (washing up, cleaning ...). This will not damage your jewellery, but soap, for example, may come to rest around the stones and obstruct the passage of light. Your jewel may then lose its brilliance.

Your jewellery can lose its shine with sweat, dust, rubbing, regular daily activities that affect the shine of the gold and stones.
You can clean your jewellery with a soft bristle brush, a drop of neutral washing-up liquid and warm water. Our Sophie d’Agon cleansing lotions are also available for purchase to restore your jewelry’s full shine.

Packaging

All our jewellery is sent in a beautiful jewellery box. If you wish, we can also add a personal note*. Just specify it when you order in the "comment" box.
* We can write the note, we can also provide you with a blank card if you prefer to write the note yourself.

The invoice will automatically be sent to you by email when your package is shipped. No worries, there will be no mention of the price in your package!

Our jewelry boxes reflect the DNA of Sophie d’Agon. Each box is specially designed for our jewelry, dressed in a lovely baby blue and stamped with our logo. Inside, it reveals a luxurious emerald green velvet-like lining, and is elegantly tied with beige fabric ribbons.

All our packages are prepared with care, in an appropriate packaging for the jewelry. The package includes a small Sophie d'Agon bag, tissue paper, the jewel in its box, the certificate of authenticity and a personalized note written with care by our team.

Production and delivery

There are two possibilities:

The jewel is in stock: you will receive it within 3 to 5 working days.
The jewel is not in stock: we start its handmade in our workshop just for you. The delivery time is then about 5 weeks from the date of the order.

Each of our jewels is entirely handmade, from the cutting of the stones to the setting. Our creations require long and meticulous hours of work. The precious stones are selected with the greatest care for their brilliance and purity, and set one by one by hand. Some jewels, especially those with enamel, may take a little longer to handmade because the enamel application is an additional step that requires very special attention. The manufacturing time of a piece of jewellery can also be impacted by the supply of our stones. Sometimes a delay is extended by waiting for a particular colour or size of stone.

We offer home delivery all over the world. Free delivery, customs duties and taxes included!
Unfortunately, there are some exceptions and countries that we cannot deliver to. This depends on either the delivery service or the legislation of the country. If you are in doubt about your country of delivery, please contact us at eshop@sophiedagon.com.
